Holiday W2 - Cham Dao Hong, Bryan Chee, Franklin Chen
We have decided to meet up on the 10th of June at Franklin's house to plan the dates of which we would meet to do the project. As of now we are thinking of hosting 2 or 3 more meetings. This round of the meeting, we are discouraged as one of our classmates did not turn up for some unknown reason. We hope that he will turn up to assist us for the other meetings. The dates we have decided are the 10th of June, which is today, the other days are the 18th, which one of our classmates is unavailable, the 21th and the 24th.

W11 L10 - Checkers (Everyone)
Ok, this week we decided to scrap the idea about making a Maglev Car thing, so screw everything we did before. We instead decided to just research about different types of environmentally friendly cars, and their different models. We have decided to just make a booklet about different models of cars that are environmentally friendly. We will also try to encourage people to purchase these cars for the sake of saving the Earth.

W10 L9 - Cham Dao Hong
We have officially decided to make a model of a Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) Car. Materials have to be bought and we have to choose the places the parts would be used. I will design the car during the holidays and will show where parts fit. In order to make it work, research will have to be done.

W8 L7 - Survey Q's and A's
Our target population: Adults
Our sample size will be: 50
The survey is for:
1. Finding what people think about what we are doing.
2. See what most people would like, in order to do our best.
3. Get an idea of what people would like to have.
Questions we would like to ask:
1. What kind of car would appeal to your liking?
2. What cost do you think is best suited for a car?
3. Do you own a car?
4. If no. Do you have a driving license?
5. Do you wish to have a car?
6. What is your main priority for a car?
7. How much do you normally pay for a car?
8. To maintain a car, how much do you have to pay per month?
9. How much would you sacrifice to save the environment?
10. If so, would you like to purchase this kind of car?
11. How often do you change your car?
Answers we got from people:

W7 L6 - Checkers (Everyone)
Aim: Ideas and Research about Product
Compilation of Notes:
Bryan Chee
Energy source vehicles and parts :
Compilation of Notes:
Bryan Chee
Energy source vehicles and parts :
Suggestion: A roof that is made of solar panels and tough glass to protect the fragile panels. A dynamo(electrical generator) for each set of wheels. An ultracapacitor that is able to store electricity that can last the car for 20 days (regular use of car , 7hrs / day).
Cham Dao Hong
Safety:
The Vehicles should have light and signals to give a warning to other road users.
Seatbelts prevent occupants being ejected from the vehicle.
Rubber tyres to help smooth out the braking of the car.
Vehicle's brakes are very important and must be very efficient.
Che Jin Peng
Design and Material:
Streamed-lined body to lessen air resistance in order to move smoothly and faster.
Franklin Chen
Energy efficient sources:
I was thinking of a low energy usage vehicle and thought of the maglev train. From there i went in to research on maglev car. So the energy we will be using is solar energy. The magnetic repulsion will reduce the energy needed to move the vehicle and the solar power will be able to power it without need of other fuels. Solar cell will be used and it does not generate a lot of energy, that is why we need a vehicle which uses like energy then present one.
The bottom of the vehicle will have to be an electromagnet and the road will be paved with permanent magnets to repulse the car to reduce friction, thus less energy is needed to power the car.

This week's IPW lesson is about managing our goals and time. We created a timeline and included in it what we were going to do for every IPW lesson or during the interval between two lessons. We have split the research into four sections and each of us are going to do our best for this project.

Today it is very fun we show 1-4 what have we done and they share with us what they have done
we wanted to make a solar vehicles and 1-4 wanted to make a ironing board which can be bend so that the people no need to bend dnow
W5 L4 - Bryan Chee
During the IPW lesson Mr Lim gave us a worksheet to work on. Its aim is to help set a more specific target about what are we going to do. The worksheet is on the previous two posts.

Franklin made me do this instead of the usual reflection (which i definitely prefer to do) :
Our progress so far as follows :
1) Our aim is to make the product less harmful to the environment as possible.
2) We have decided to make a car that totally requires no electricity.
3) Jin Peng actually thought of having a car that only requires energy to start up the engine, after that, the engine will generate electricity and therefore, the car will recharge itself.
4) Franklin thought of redoing the roads, so less friction is produced (don't know how that helps).
The product we are thinking of creating is as follows:
1) We have to have something that is special, and it has to stand out from other vehicles, maybe a boat-like car that uses sails to move, one plus point is that it can go both on land and float on water, (but this counts on wind).
2) The design should be stream-lined to reduce air resistance, and will move faster.
3) Using less costly or recycled material, this saves the environment, so it's good.
4) It should have a way of showing to the public that saving the environment is very important, and never take the Earth for granted.
Franklin has the first half.
(Anyone notices that the time of post is weird?)

Today we started to produce the product.
The guiding questions that our group has selected to do research on are :
1) Ways to reduce exhaust
2) How to make the car use less energy
3) How to travel faster with a unit amount of fuel/ energy
4) How to reduce cost of car
5) How to attract people to buy/purchase/try it.
Area that our group will be doing research into are:
1) Greenhouse gases
2) Solar energy
3) Vehicle - Exhaust/ motor
4) Energy efficient appliances
5) vehicle like hovercraft and maglev train
Cham Dao Hong has the other half (now completed)

Today Mr. Joseph Lim did not come today. we start by giving ideal about what we are making and how we can make it and how can we make it using the lest amount of money.
W4 L3 - Bryan Chee
The lesson was a little interesting and we had to show the other group (1-4) our ideas and we proposed a solar powered vehicle but i think we should not just focused on vehicles but also other stuff that emits a lot of carbon emissions too.

It was a very interesting session this time. Group 1-4 was showing my group about their great idea which they wanted to make into a product. Theirs was about a new kind of ironing board which could prevent or reduce back ache. We have not produce any product yet, however we have do a lot of research and our next step is to think of a product to build (most-likely).
The ideas thought so far is to produce a energy efficient vehicle. the source of power is not settle yet. as in, in could be run by a solar power or maybe human strength.

This lesson's main objective was to get both groups (1-4 and 5-8) to give a mini presentation to each other. We were asked to give comments about the other group's work. The other group was making a kind of ironing board which has a flexible panel, therefore, making ironing easier and less pain for the back. We popped up questions like whether or not the things left on the ironing board will fall since it is slanted. When it came to our turn, we created an on-the-spot idea to create a miniature model of a solar-powered vehicle. Mr. Joseph Lim told the other group that they would have to try out the (panel-less) kind of ironing board first, just to have a feel of how it is like. I thought : How are we going to afford a solar-powered car. And secondly, we can never be able to drive it. We are underage! (Farsighted, sorry)

As we advanced more, more problems surfaced, more quarrels broke out... However, we still stuck together and solve those problems as one. Problems we faced were like computer lag, computer hang and other weird computer errors. Due to bad communication skills and computer lag, many messages we sent to each other was misunderstood and late. This lesson was the toughest of all so far!

Today Mr. Joseph Lim could not access us as he was busy. We were left to finish up a task given to us just the day before this. Yesterday, my group and I spent a lot of time on mindmeister (a mindmapping site) to map out why we chose this subject. Bryan Chee helped the next day. =)

I learn a lot in the first lesson I learn that team work is the most important, with no teamwork nothing can be done and I learn to think more creatively. I found that IPW is very fun as I can learn more about Mother Earth.

I find IPW interesting and quite fun as we get to work as a team to produce reports or stuff that is related to the topic. During the process, we learn more as we are researching about the topic so i find it knowledgeable too. Though we may face difficulties during the process, i feel as a group we can overcome obstacles and produce good results

That 35 min interaction was indeed interesting and new as i was not there for the first lesson. I find that IPW (Grace) requires a lot of teamwork and effort to do well. Even pair up with people who you do not like, you will still have to do certain things together sometimes.
W2 L1 - Cham Dao Hong
Mr. Joseph Lim is the teacher(principal) who is taking us. That day's lesson was very fun. We had to think of group names and we ended up laughing a lot. So we ended up creating the group name : Checkers. We chose it because all our names have the "Ch" in front. We also made up our mind on the topic we were doing. Which would be 'Climate Change, Global Warming and Clean Energy. Mr. Lim told us that that would be a very big topic and we would have to do a lot of research. We should be able to manage.
